Podcast Series Provides Graduates With Exclusive View into Private Interviews and Their Critiques

(Minneapolis) Graduates preparing to enter the workforce face a number of challenges but one of the primary problems for many is finding the right advice.  Graduates will benefit from a graduation package of audio and video podcasts, created and conducted by Sue Morem, a nationally recognized career and workplace expert.

More than 25 audio podcasts and a video series, “The Job Seeker,” are available (after May 1) at www.tipsforgrads.com.  The videocasts take the form of a reality TV show, following five soon-to-be graduates through a complete interview process from dressing the part, to reviewing their interviews on tape. See website for preview.

“Watching a peer stumble, struggle and succeed through an interview is an invaluable experience” said Morem, author of 101 Tips for Graduates: A Code of Conduct for Success and Happiness in Your Professional Life (Checkmark Books). “Seeing firsthand how appearance and behavior influence hiring decisions helps viewers identify some of their own shortcomings and reinforces their strengths.”

With all the time pressures new grads face, podcasts offer inspiration and support in an easily accessible format.  Listeners can tune in to the podcasts on the computer or download them to an Mp3 player and listen at their leisure or on the go, even on the way to an interview.

Morem’s podcasts offer advice for graduates in a wide range of areas, topics including how to create a plan for their future, and recognizing and dealing with unrealistic expectations.

Morem offers these tips to graduates new to the job market:

·      Videotape yourself in a “dress rehearsal” interview.  Review the tape several times both with and without sound.

·      Market yourself.  Know your unique skills and talents and be prepared to talk about your accomplishments.

·      Make sure you can back up everything you tell an interviewer with examples and evidence.

·      Student fashion is out at the office.  If you spend your money on one thing, invest in a good interview suit.

·      Conduct informational interviews to explore various industries and positions.

·      You have more experience than you think. Remember to include student organizations, volunteer work and unrelated jobs.
